Martial arts are all about learning and this is what this blog is all about.
But why martial arts?
Well the answer is actually quite simple, it is a subject that should be continually studied in order to become skilful in it.
I have been told by many people in the past that they ‘have the technique’ and they genuinely believe they have nothing more to gain from said technique. This is a misconception, one which if not fixed could have a devastating effect on later training. I myself have come to realise this in my own training.
Most of us know the story of the man that tried building a house on top of sand, and it keeps falling down. This is the same with any skill that requires a longer study than just a few weeks. It requires a good solid foundation, one which will help prop up and accelerate learning later more advanced techniques.
All the great minds and people behind success stories know the power of continually learning and pushing forward towards their goals.
Learn continually – there’s always ‘one more thing’ to learn!
– Steve Jobs
So why do we think we have learnt it?
Again, the answer is simple enough:
– We genuinely believe we have learnt it.
– We may not be ready in our own training in order to better the technique.
– We may not see the progress ourselves
Never discourage anyone that continually makes progress, no matter how slow…
Even if that someone is yourself!
– Plato
It can be hard when you don’t see your own progress, feeling like you are just going through the motions. That is why we have continually learning instructors too. We as instructors think it important that we should learn in order to teach others. I have recently started a new skill, one of which is quite frustrating but I know from previously conquering my goals, such as that of the black belt, that I can do it if I persevere.
I am still learning

So, if you want to better your life I would say continually learn.
And remember that the MAC team are always here to help you achieve your goals, to the blackbelt and beyond.
