You may have noticed your instructor mention knife awareness during your recent training.
Martial Art Concepts are currently raising awareness of the prevalence of knife crime, especially amongst children both in and outside of school hours.
Knife crime is a serious issue and is currently on the rise. My hope, with this blog, is to bring attention to facts that may be being over looked or under reported and hopefully more of you are kept safer and realise that there are some simple steps to increase awareness and have the ability to stay away from any conflict involving a knife.
Should an instructor have all the answers?

Everyone goes through life on their own path. Some try to follow the ways of others of course, and that’s fine as long as its correct for that person. Finding inspiration from great people will always help at some point. Bruce Lee was a great man with so much to learn from.
There are a few people you see in life that are an inspiration for a huge number of others. Be it through how they speak, act, or a single heroic instance.
How many times have you tried accomplishing a goal and found it much more difficult than you ever thought to start?
If you train in martial arts you will already know the advantages of goal setting. By learning a few general rules, much more can be accomplished and made easier.

The 27th February saw the return of the Combat Challenge fighting event to Stourbridge. The event sees Martial Artists from around the country compete in the cage against each other.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.
– Sun Tzu, The Art of War
The mind is primary, number one, any action or decision you take first starts as a thought in your mind and if martial arts is a set of movements you make in response to a set of movements your opponent makes, does it not make sense that you should train your mind first.
The one thing that really good and effective self defense training, close combat training, Police training, military training, etc that I have experienced has in common is that it teaches the student to fly through the OODA loop while keeping the enemy in the OODA loop. Continue reading →
So come on then, why test yourself? OK here I am talking about the grading process that the students go through, that the instructors go through and are still going through, why do it? Continue reading →
